Kiwanis Club Deputy of the Year Awards

Lieutenant David Edmonds

The Kiwanis Club of Memphis has named Shelby County Sheriff’s Officer Lieutenant David Edmonds as “Shelby County Deputy Sheriff of the Year.”

The Kiwanis Club gives an award each year to the deserving Deputy for exemplary service to the community.  We are grateful to the Kiwanis Club for taking time to honor Lieutenant Edmonds, on September 15, 2010, at a Noon luncheon, at the Peabody Hotel, 149 Union.

Lieutenant Edmonds has been a dedicated employee of the Sheriff’s Office since he began as a cadet in 1981.  He graduated from the Training Academy in April of 1988 as a deputy sheriff and was assigned to the Civil Division.  He has served in many divisions in the Sheriff’s Office over the past 22 years.  Recently he was responsible for developing the Field Training Officer (FTO) Program.  His work to improve the FTO program has helped set standards in the program and creates better accountability.  Under his direction the FTO reporting program has been computerized which makes it easier to track the daily progress of the officers being trained in the Uniform Patrol Division.  It is because of his dedication, knowledge and expertise that this program has been so successful.

Lieutenant Edmonds has also been an active member of the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Team for the past 6 years.  During this time period he has conducted and participated in numerous debriefings.  He has an extensive amount of knowledge and dedication to this department and is heavily relied upon by the command staff.  He has proven to be a model employee who is always reliable and readily available for any task.
