Crime Prevention — Car Seat Safety

One Carseat at a Time LogoThe Shelby County Sheriff's Office is offering Free Child Passenger Safety Seat Checks by certified Technicians. Technicians (Officers) will check and demonstrate the correct installation of your child safety seat in your vehicle. This service is available by appointment or at a local Safety Seat check-up point. For appointments and Safety Seat check-up point locations and information, please contact Officer Beth Braden in the Crime Prevention Bureau at 901-867-1385.

ALWAYS MAKE SURE:

Children to one year and at least 20 lbs. In Rear-Facing seats.

Harness Straps at or below shoulder level.

Harness straps should be at or above shoulder level.

Most seats require top slot for forward-facing seats.

Belt Positioning Seats must be used with both lap and shoulder belt.

Make sure the lap belt fits low and tight across the lap/upper thigh area and the shoulder belt fits snug crossing the chest and shoulder to avoid abdominal injuries.
