Reserve Deputies

The Sheriff’s Office has a Reserve Bureau of fully trained Deputies.  By day, they work in their respective careers.  In their off-hours, they put on the Sheriff’s Office uniform and patrol the streets and perform other public safety duties for the community.

History

The Reserve Bureau was created in 1965 through the vision of former Shelby County Sheriff William N. Morris, Jr. Since then, hundreds of citizens have been part of the Reserve Deputy Program.

Reserve Deputies serve in several bureaus at various times based on their availability. The Officers receive the same training as full-time Deputies. Besides attending classroom courses, Reserve Deputies must meet rigorous physical agility standards, be proficient in the use of firearms, and take 40 hours of specialized training each year.
